This residential project at The Vines in Perth paired poolside container planting with a native garden at the front of the property. We supplied Utah Planters, mature architectural plants, sub-irrigation inserts, a natural billabong and crane-placed landscape boulders.
Utah Planters around the pool area
Utah Planters are the feature containers around the swimming pool. The Utah range is made in multiple sizes, so the same profile was repeated at different scales across the paved pool deck rather than mixing competing shapes.
The Utah Planter is part of our Light Stone planters collection, a Portland cement, stone aggregate and fibreglass composite. It carries the visual weight of natural masonry at a fraction of the weight of solid concrete, which is what makes pots of this size workable on a finished pool surround.

Mature 15-year-old Dracaenas with self-watering inserts
The Utah containers were planted with mature 15-year-old Dracaenas, which gave the scheme full height and dense foliage from the day it was finished rather than several seasons later. Their upright, linear foliage suits the open water and paving around it.
To manage hydration through Perth’s hot summer months, selected Utah Planters were fitted with self-watering inserts. The sub-irrigation reservoir holds water below the root zone and supplies it as the mix dries, which steadies moisture levels and reduces how often the pots need hand watering.
Native front garden, billabong and crane-positioned boulders
The work extended to the front entrance of the property, where the garden was developed into a native setting centred on a natural billabong.
Large feature rocks were set into the garden beds to anchor the planting with natural texture. Their weight and scale meant a crane was used to place each one accurately alongside the native plantings and the poolside elements.
