Utah Planter

Five sizes in one shape: P1118-31 at 33 x 31 through to P1118-85 at 85 x 90, all moulded in Light Stone composite. The base steps inward, so the pot reads as though it sits just clear of paving or decking — it works on terraces, sheltered verandas and inside. Raised vibration block squares are available if you want real clearance underneath as well as the look.

About Utah Planter

The lower edge steps inward rather than meeting the ground flush. That recess hides the contact surface, so on flat paving or timber decking the vessel looks lifted slightly off the surface. The effect holds whether you use one pot at a residential courtyard entry, a single mature specimen in an interior living room, or three graduated sizes across a commercial entry.

Light Stone composite carries all five sizes, 33 x 31 up to 85 x 90. Factory finishes are Dark Grey and textured Cimstone White-Natural Stone Grey; where a project palette calls for something else, we coat the exterior in Dulux Weathershield. On paved areas, sit each pot on raised vibration block squares — the gap lets drainage water run away instead of sitting under the base.

For a sense of scale, there is a finished poolside job here in Perth running mature 15-year-old Dracaenas in self-watering inserts: Utah Planters at The Vines. The same five sizes are listed under the LS1118 code family as the Utah Large Planter.

The rest of the family sits in the Light Stone Planters collection. Before you order mix for one of the larger sizes, work the volume out with the potting mix calculator — guessing at 85 x 90 usually means a second trip for soil.

Why does the planter look like it is floating?

The lower perimeter steps inward, which throws a shadow line around the bottom edge. Set on flat paving or decking, the actual contact surface sits out of sight behind that recess, and the vessel reads as though it is held clear of the ground.

Do I need the raised vibration block squares?

They are an option rather than a requirement. Lifting the base off a hard surface opens a channel for drainage water to escape, keeps damp from pooling on outdoor tiles, and isolates the pot from ground vibration.

What goes in the bottom before the potting mix?

Check the central drainage aperture is clear, then build up in layers: synthetic flyscreen mesh over the opening, 8 cm to 10 cm of coarse blue metal aggregate, permeable geotextile fabric across that, and a quality container potting mix chosen for the plant going in.

Will a tall specimen stay put in wind?

Tall upright foliage outdoors wants weight low in the pot, and the blue metal aggregate layer does that work. Put 10 kg to 25 kg of clean aggregate in the bottom to drop the centre of gravity and hold the plant steady through coastal gusts.

What keeps the Light Stone and Dulux surfaces looking right?

Light Stone composite has a fine mineral texture that traps dust in the grain, so a soft sponge or soft brush with warm water and a mild detergent lifts garden splash better than a dry cloth does. Rinse the detergent off rather than letting it dry on. Keep scouring pads, bleach and solvent degreasers away from the Dark Grey, Cimstone White-Natural Stone Grey and Dulux Weathershield coatings — they dull the exterior film, and the mark tends to stay visible.
