About Rome Planter
Wall thickness is what you are really buying here. Dense, kiln-fired terracotta holds root temperature steady through a hot afternoon and lets oxygen move through the clay body, which is why deep-rooting species do better in this planter than in a thin-walled pot of the same height. The upright Atlantis profile sits well along garden walkways, in courtyards and on patios, and it takes direct Western Australian sun and coastal breeze without fading.
Two sizes are made: 530W x 700H and 360W x 510H. Both taper gently, so internal soil volume stays generous while the ground footprint stays narrow, which matters when a path has to stay clear or a courtyard corner is tight. The larger size holds its own as a single upright at a doorway; the medium is the easier one to work in pairs or in a group.
If you are matching more than one shape, start with the Atlantis pots and planters collection. For current stock and Perth delivery, contact us about a product or project and we will check what is on the floor at Malaga.
Common questions
Large or medium — which one fits the job?
The 530W x 700H model provides 700 mm of planting depth, which suits deep-rooting shrubs, a dwarf citrus, or a standard topiary either side of an entry. The 360W x 510H is the manageable one for flanking veranda steps, a patio dining corner, or grouped container clusters.
What goes under it on paving?
Terracotta pot feet. Lifting the base slightly keeps the drainage hole clear, lets irrigation water run away instead of pooling, and stops trapped moisture marking paved or tiled surfaces.
Can the Rome Planter withstand full Western Australian sun?
Yes. Firing at high temperature vitrifies the clay, so the body will not soften, delaminate or fade under intense UV. The thermal mass of thick terracotta also buffers root systems against rapid temperature swings.
Which potting mix works in a container this deep?
A coarse, high-grade outdoor potting mix with wetting agents and perlite or pumice, so drainage stays consistent right down the full depth of the container. Heavy garden topsoil compacts in a pot this tall and shuts off aeration.
