Reactive minerals in the glaze expand during high-temperature firing and leave a micro-cratered surface behind. Run a hand across it and you feel the craters. The pattern lands differently on every bowl, which is the finish behaving as intended rather than a flaw to match up.
What works planted in a bowl this low?
Anything that stays below eye level across a table. The low stance means people can talk over the top of it, so a mix of trailing and upright succulents holds the arrangement together without becoming a screen. Is it drilled for drainage?
