About Anduze Planter
Anduze urns have been made in the south of France for centuries and the shape has never needed altering: a flared upper rim, a contoured belly, a tapered foot. Each vessel here is handcrafted from dense terracotta clay and kiln-fired at high temperature, which is what lets it stand outside through a Western Australian summer and a wet winter without fretting at the rim.
The ancient green TDI finish reads as an aged patina rather than a paint colour, so a new urn does not look new for long once it is sitting among established planting. High-fired terracotta also stays slightly porous. The walls breathe, which feeds oxygen to the roots and keeps soil temperature steadier through a heatwave than a sealed synthetic pot ever manages.
Three sizes, each with a different job:
- AT/32-4957 (32 x 43): Small enough for a low retaining wall, an outdoor dining table or a tight terrace corner.
- AT/46-4957 (46 x 58): The size that does most of the work in a garden, whether that is framing a doorway, marking verandah steps or repeating down a formal path.
- AT/63-4957 (63 x 78): Enough soil volume for a specimen citrus, a dwarf olive or a standard bay tree.

Will the urn mark my paving?
It can if you stand it flat on limestone or travertine, where trapped moisture leaves rings and leaches minerals into the stone. Terracotta pot feet fix it. Lift the urn clear, keep the base drainage hole out of standing water, and runoff drains away instead of pooling underneath.
Does the ancient green TDI finish vary from pot to pot?
Yes, and that is the nature of a kiln-fired patina: tone, mottling and texture shift between pieces. If you want a matched pair either side of an entrance, look at them side by side in the Malaga showroom or ask our team to pull two urns from the same firing run.
Anything to do before planting the 63 x 78?
Put it in its final position first. Dense terracotta and damp soil together are not something you shift once the urn is full. Cover the base drainage hole with permeable mesh or a terracotta shard so mix cannot wash out, then backfill with a free-draining potting mix suited to the plant you have chosen.
Is it suitable for an exposed coastal courtyard?
Yes. Thick walls and a low centre of gravity give it the ballast that lighter pots lack when the Fremantle Doctor comes through in the afternoon. Vitrified terracotta clay does not soften in rain or break down under strong UV, so open terraces and coastal courtyards are fair use.
