About Trough Planter TOV 200x50x50
Two metres of planting run at 50 cm deep holds a lot of soil, and in solid concrete or precast masonry the empty container alone is more than two people should be lifting. Fully reinforced lightweight construction keeps the same footprint and the same outdoor durability, minus the deadweight, so the trough can be handled, transported and positioned before anything goes into it.
Five formats are recorded here. The 200x50x50H and the extra-deep 200x60x60H are the ones for long boundary runs; 200x60x53H sits a little lower; 182x40x80H stands upright where you want height rather than length; and 170x40x45H is the compact option for a tight courtyard. All five come from our trough planters collection, and all five give the planting depth needed for seasonal flowers, a kitchen herb bed, home vegetables or clipped shrubs used as structural planting.
Handling is the part people underestimate on a two-metre container. Lift the empty trough into place, square it against the wall or paving line, then add drainage gravel and potting media. In that order, setting out a patio or landscape border stays accurate to the millimetre. The other way round, the trough stays roughly where it landed.
Work out the media volume before you order — our potting mix calculator will size it from the dimensions above. And if you are weighing the five formats against each other, that is easier done standing next to them: visit the Malaga showroom in Perth, Western Australia, and bring your measurements.
Which five sizes does the TOV trough come in?
Five standard formats, all measured in centimetres:
200x50x50H
200x60x60H
200x60x53H
182x40x80H
170x40x45H
Is a lightweight trough strong enough to leave outdoors?
Yes. The reinforcement runs through the whole build, so the walls carry a two-metre soil load and hold up to sun and rain year after year. What comes out is the deadweight of solid masonry, not the strength — which is what makes the difference on a site where the only way in is by hand.
Which plants work well in these troughs?
Depth decides it, and every format here has enough for seasonal flowers, culinary herbs, home vegetables or hardy ornamental shrubs. The 60 cm deep profiles are the ones to pick when shrubs need real root room; the 170x40x45H suits herbs and annuals better.
Can two people install one of these?
Empty, yes. Tare weight is low enough that two people can lift a trough, walk it to its final position and align it properly. Drainage gravel and potting media go in once it is sitting where you want it — not before.
Can I see the sizes before ordering?
All five TOV formats are on display at our Malaga showroom, alongside the rest of our lightweight planters. Come in with the dimensions of the space and our team can confirm which format fits and sort out delivery.
