About Ribbed Urn
Two jobs, one pot. At 58 cm across and 75 cm tall, this Atlantis urn takes an advanced specimen with real root-run beneath it, or comes back to our Malaga workshop to be sealed and plumbed as a fountain. The classical urn silhouette is broken up by pronounced horizontal ribbing that catches the light and moves its shadow lines from morning through to late afternoon, so the piece reads differently at either end of the day. It holds a courtyard corner, a paved entry, or the end of a formal garden view.
Kiln-fired terracotta clay, hand-formed, and thick through the wall. That thickness does more work than the texture: dense clay holds soil temperature steady, so root balls are not cooking their way through a Perth summer afternoon the way they can behind a thin-walled container. The ribbing adds wall depth again, and the weight that comes with it keeps the urn planted at ground level without bracing or staking.

Does the ribbing do anything for the plant, or is it purely decorative?
It adds surface area and wall thickness to the terracotta, which means more thermal insulation around the potting mix. Roots sit further back from the radiant heat of a Perth afternoon than they would behind a thin wall.
What does a water feature conversion involve?
Our Malaga workshop seals the porous clay interior with a two-pack waterproof coating, drills and fits the plumbing conduits, then integrates a matched submersible pump. From there, water either bubbles gently over the top rim or cascades down the external ribs into a hidden reservoir.
Anything to set up underneath before planting?
Check the base drainage hole is clear, then stand the urn on terracotta pot feet. There is a lot of moist potting mix in a vessel this size, and the clearance underneath keeps drainage water off your pavers and the root ball out of standing water.
Will the 58 x 75 stay put in an exposed position?
58 cm diameter, 75 cm height, thick high-fired terracotta walls — the urn carries real weight empty, and a good deal more once soil or water goes in. That mass is the ballast that holds it steady when the Fremantle Doctor comes through in the afternoon.
