About Apple Pot
Cast this belly in terracotta or cast stone and you would need two people and a trolley every time it moved. Marine-grade fibreglass composite holds the same full curve at a weight one person can manage, so the Apple Pot goes up to an upper-level balcony, onto timber decking, or into a living room without anyone doing their back in. The round shoulders do something useful next to hard lines, too — rendered walls, square pavers and a straight run of decking board all read softer with a curve in front of them.
There is real depth in the body for deep-rooting stock: an indoor specimen you intend to keep for years, a patio shrub, or a flowering planting left to spill over the shoulders. The exterior is finished in two-pack UV-resistant paint, which is the part that handles a west-facing Perth patio through summer. Outdoors, sort the drainage before the mix goes in. Indoors, sit a saucer inside the pot and leave the plant in its grow-pot.
Other shapes built the same way sit in our Fibreglass Pots & Planters collection. If you are pairing two, or specifying for a project, contact us about a product or project. And if you can get to the Malaga showroom, lift one before you decide — the weight is the part photographs never convey.
Common questions
Which plants suit a rounded pot like this?
Bushy things, mostly. Indoors the open rim takes a monstera, a fiddle-leaf fig or a spathiphyllum without the foliage fighting the shape. Outdoors it is spreading ferns, azaleas, or a mixed perennial planting that spills over the curved shoulders. The sphere reads best when the planting breaks its line rather than standing bolt upright in the middle of it.
Will it stay put in a breezy spot?
Put the weight low down. The body curves in to a small ground contact, so a 10 cm layer of blue metal aggregate or washed river stones in the base lowers the centre of gravity and holds it steady through coastal wind. Load the ballast in before the mix, not after — potting mix and a tall plant on their own carry the mass too high.
