Tall Square Taper Planter

Square at the rim, narrower at the foot. The taper keeps ground contact tight where paving is scarce while the full height still carries a planting well above knee level. Moulded in lightweight Polystone Resin, made in two sizes — CG5004/90 (40 x 90) and CG5004/75 (32 x 75) — across two colour options.

About Tall Square Taper Planter

Narrow courtyards, verandahs and entrance foyers rarely have paving to spare. That is the problem this shape solves: the square rim sits over a smaller base, so the planter takes its floor space up top where the planting needs it and gives it back at ground level where you have to walk past. Upright stature, compact footprint, walkway clearance intact.

Polystone Resin does the crisp edges and flat faces of cut stonework without the mass that comes with it, which means one person can shift it into position and move it again later without lifting gear. The composite holds those lines in indoor living spaces and sheltered outdoor settings, and asks for nothing beyond ordinary container care.

Two sizes are produced: CG5004/90 (40 x 90) and CG5004/75 (32 x 75), each in two neutral colours. The proportions match, so a pair reads correctly flanking a doorway, and the two heights step neatly when grouped together. Want the same height without the taper? The Tall Square Planter runs straight-sided from rim to base. The rest of the Polystone Resin collection shares the same material, so finishes sit together in a mixed grouping. Measure the clear width of the walkway it has to stand beside before you decide — that number settles it more often than the height does.

Common questions

Which plants suit a tall tapered square?

Upright structural species echo the shape rather than fight it — Sansevieria (mother-in-law's tongue), palms, tall dracaenas and slender ficus varieties all work well. Set a single upright specimen in the centre and let something cascading do the rest: string of pearls or trailing dichondra spilling over the square rim softens the hard edge.

Will it stay put in a breezy courtyard?

The foot is narrower than the rim and the resin is light, so weight it down before you plant. Put a 10 cm layer of blue metal aggregate or river pebbles in the bottom, cover that with permeable geotextile fabric, then backfill with potting mix. The fabric stops the mix washing down into the stone, and once the planting is in and watered the weight sits low where you want it.

How do we choose between the two sizes?

The CG5004/90 measures 40 x 90 cm and the CG5004/75 measures 32 x 75 cm. Proportions match across both, so a matched pair reads correctly either side of a doorway, and one of each steps the heights neatly in a group. Where paving is tight, the 32 x 75 is the easier fit.
